Gemma Barnett

After graduating from the University of Leeds, I began my career at Capita, where I developed a strong foundation in operations management. I bring over 25 years’ experience across professional services, including 10 years in the insurance sector and the past 15 years working in the legal industry.

I have held senior roles spanning operations management, contract management, client operations, business development, and marketing, with a proven track record of driving operational excellence, strengthening client relationships, and delivering strategic growth. I thrive in dynamic environments, optimising processes, building commercial partnerships, and delivering innovative, client-centric solutions that create lasting business impact.

I am passionate about empowering women in leadership and advancing workplace equality. I have led Women in Leadership forums and am a founding partner of She Who, creating spaces for meaningful conversations that inspire change and drive progress. I am also committed to driving inclusion and equity across organisations.

Alongside my professional career, I have a strong commitment to governance and social impact. I served as a charity trustee for seven years, including time as Chair of the Board, providing strategic leadership and oversight. In recognition of this work, I was honoured with the Advisor of the Year award at the Arts & Business Cymru Awards in 2024.

I am a Council Member of the Cardiff & District Law Society, a role I am particularly proud of after 15 years working in the legal sector in non-fee-earning roles. I am passionate about championing the contribution of business services and support teams and strengthening collaboration across the legal profession.

Outside of work, I live in Barry with my husband and two children and love living by the sea. My interests include walking my labradoodle, practising hot yoga and watching Wales play in almost any sport but rugby in particular! I also enjoy listening to live music.
