Clare Tregoning

Partner

I joined Redkite in September as a Partner in the Wills, Trusts and Estates Disputes Team having previously headed the Dispute Resolution team in a small regional firm.

I qualified as a solicitor in September 2008 and have over 17 years’ experience in the field of commercial litigation. I have previously worked for regional and national firms specialising principally in the fields of property litigation and more recently, trusts and contentious probate disputes.

Throughout my years in practice, I have dealt with a varied caseload and range of clients. While I am comfortable dealing with large corporate clients, my experience has made me relatable, and my real passion comes in being able to help people who are facing a tough personal situation. I have been praised for my ability to take the tough legalese and to translate it into an easy-to-understand format. I appreciate that during a difficult time, the last thing that anybody needs is a bombardment of technical legal terms.

At an early stage, I like to get to know my clients and will work hard to establish what they are looking to achieve from litigation. I am a CEDR trained mediator and use my extensive experience of Alternative Dispute Resolution to try and achieve the best result for my clients.

However, I am also an experienced litigator and am not afraid to roll up my sleeves and step into the fray should litigation become necessary.

I have experience in dealing with claims by and against executors, challenges to the validity of a will and bringing and defending claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. My notable cases include: -

  • Successfully defending a challenge to the validity of a will brought by the son of the deceased in a 4 day trial in the High Court
  • Successfully bringing an application to appoint independent professional trustees where the joint trustees were unable to agree a way forward
  • Successfully negotiating a 1975 Act settlement on behalf of an adult child who suffered from complex additional learning needs where the deceased had died intestate
  • Successfully bringing a claim under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 on behalf of a brother against his sister for an order for sale of inherited property

In August 2021, I was appointed as a Deputy District Judge and sit on the Welsh circuit.

Outside of work (with what little spare time I have as a Mum to two very busy and active children!) I am a keen netballer and enjoy getting outside with my family and my precocious sausage dog. I also Chair the Board of Trustees of Swansea Women's Aid, and am passionate about helping women in need in Swansea and the surrounding areas.

PRESS RELEASE ON SOCIALS

In addition to the above points;

  1. I have been a solicitor for 17 years. I am from Neath and have always worked in the Swansea area. I started my career at DJM Solicitors where I qualified and stayed for 10 years before moving to Acuity Law. I would say that I have two particular career highlights. Naturally, my appointment as a Deputy District Judge in 2021 was a real feather in the cap for me. However, one of my proudest moments was being appointed as a partner in 2017 while pregnant with my second child. That was a position I had really worked hard for, and it felt like a fitting culmination of all of my hard work.
  2. Redkite has a standout reputation in the legal sector. The firm’s values align heavily with my own and combine everything that I have loved about my previous positions. The support of strong teams both fee earning and non fee earning which feeds in to the overall ability to provide a high standard service to clients, flexibility and a depth of incredibly talented people are attributes I particularly appreciate.
  3. I am excited to work with Alexia and her team to help grow the Wills Trusts and Estates Disputes offering in Swansea. The team already has an incredible reputation and client base and shares my desire to be litigators with a personal touch. This area of practice requires a sensitive approach, and I have already seen how skilled all of the team are in delivering exceptional quality service but at a human level.
