Julie Long

I am a chartered legal executive and qualified in 1996.  Although my focus is now  on personal injury work, I have an extensive background in family law, ranging from care proceedings (when I worked for  Gloucestershire County Council)  through to complex financial remedy claims.  I also have a strong background in dispute resolution and have acted on a wide range of disputes.

Since I joined Davey Law in 2011, I have developed a personal injury practice and have a particular interest in complex clinical negligence claims. I also deal with fatal accidents/injuries.  Since Davey Law merged with Redkite Solicitors in May 2023, I  now work exclusively on personal injury and clinical negligence claims.  I have settled many claims but of particular note:

  • I was part of a team at Davey Law which recovered £9.6m for a client who suffered a catastrophic brain injury in a motorcycle accident.  This was the highest in value of the claims recovered by Davey Law.  I am now an advocate of helmet-cams; they  may save you from a significant reduction in damages if your footage evidences the fact that you were not contributorily negligent.   As a keen motorcyclist (I passed my bike test when I was 17 and currently ride a 1200cc BMW!) I fully understand the risks and the choices that are sometimes faced on two wheels.
  • I had conduct of and recovered a substantial sum for a client who was not prescribed anti-coagulants following surgery for a broken ankle.  Sadly she suffered life changing injuries as a result of that failure.  The hospital strenuously denied liability until the court process was well under way.  We settled the claim at mediation.
  • I had conduct of a fatal accident that arose when the client’s car was hit by a speeding motorist.  She took the brunt of the impact although her husband was also injured.  Unfortunately, the hospital advised the husband to withdraw life support.  Technically, the claim was not complex and we negotiated a settlement but the effect on the family was heartbreaking.

I believe my work in the sphere of family law over such a long period has enhanced the service I can provide my clients.  Sadly, injured clients get divorced (sometimes because of their injuries) and injured children may require local authority input.  I therefore understand the processes to be navigated and nuances of the client’s position.

I grew up in Gloucestershire and live locally with my husband.  We have two daughters – one at university and the other returned for the time being.  My husband and I like to get out on our motorbikes in our free time, weather permitting.   I also enjoy walking (I am well placed to access to woodland, canal paths and Minchinhampton common), swimming,  camping  and watching the drag racing at Santa Pod.
