Redkite Solicitors has added to its work with Bluestone National Park Resort by providing its legal services for the resort’s newest centre for activity and play, The Hive.

The Hive, an exciting multi-faceted activity hub, opened on Friday, 23 July as the summer festival campaign began at Bluestone.

Described as the “new home of activity and play”, The Hive is designed for all ages and abilities and consists of many different zones, including a four-sided climbing wall called the Power Tower, a sports arena called Kineticage and the Airmaze.

Redkite Solicitors have 12 offices across Wales and South West England. They provide a full suite of legal services for Bluestone including commercial contracts, property and employment, and provided the commercial and construction legal advice throughout the construction and fit out of The Hive. Paul James, Redkite’s Corporate and Commercial Partner, advised on this project and was supported by colleague Rhian Davies, Associate at Redkite, who specialises in construction law.

Mr James said: “We’re delighted to be involved in The Hive at Bluestone. This fantastic complex sets new standards for activity centres and will add to Bluestone’s reputation as one of the UK’s best holiday centres.”

“The Hive is a really exciting addition to the county. Bluestone employs around 700 team members and welcomed around 160,000 visitors in 2019, generating millions of pounds for the Pembrokeshire economy”.

“Redkite Solicitors has developed a fantastic partnership with Bluestone, working with them for more than eight years as they have developed the holiday resort from modest beginnings to a major tourist centre with 344 lodges, studios and cottages.”

“Bluestone has a major impact on the regional economy. The year-round occupancy at Bluestone is a high 97%, and the resort works with a wide range of suppliers across Wales, with 65% of its £7.8m annual expenditure being retained within its home county of Pembrokeshire.”

Mr James said Redkite had provided legal services for landmark developments at Bluestone including advising on the construction contract documentation to support the resort’s phase 3 development of 64 luxury holiday timber framed lodges; advising on the construction and fit out contracts to support the construction of the Serendome, a transparent canopy arched over a massive 7,000 square metre area encompassing cafes, shops, activities and a 400-seat amphitheatre; providing legal support in relation to the restoration of Blackpool Mill into a heritage restaurant and creating a cafe and exhibition space; and supporting on its KickStart Scheme which aims to create new employment opportunities for 16 to 24 year olds.

Liz Weedon, Head of Projects, for Bluestone, said: “Redkite is Bluestone’s trusted partners for legal services. We see them as an ideal fit as they have the multiple services and experience of large international law firms, but have local offices and, like Bluestone, are firmly part of the Pembrokeshire business community. We couldn’t complete such a complex development without the support of our partners, many of who, like Redkite, are based locally in West Wales. We see that as both supporting excellence in our home area and as part of our commitment to the environment and sustainability.”

Patrick Swann, Project Manager for The Hive added “We’re so excited to unveil our new project and can’t wait to welcome our staying guests into The Hive. Packed with the latest innovations, it will be a play zone where all ages and abilities can enjoy themselves.”

Over the past 12 years Bluestone National Park Resort has developed a unique holiday resort with the environment and biodiversity at its heart. Situated in 500 acres of spectacular countryside, Bluestone offers the chance for holidaymakers to enjoy a break combining spacious, modern accommodation blended into the natural environment of the Pembrokeshire National Park, with miles of private walking and cycle tracks through woodland and meadows.

Redkite Solicitors, which can trace its heritage back to 1878, works with many leading companies in Wales and recently announced a partnership with the Port of Milford Haven. Following a competitive tender process, Redkite were appointed by the Port to provide legal services across areas including corporate, commercial contracts, procurement, employment and HR, litigation, property and conveyancing, engineering, construction and development matters.
