Carys Lodwick
Born and raised in Carmarthenshire, I joined Redkite’s (Legal 500) Tier 1 recognised Employment Law Team in 2016 as a Solicitor.
I have been working within the field of employment law since 2013, having previously worked for Geldards LLP and Blake Morgan LLP, and trained with niche employment and corporate practice Hopson Solicitors of Cheltenham.
During my career I have acquired a broad depth of knowledge in both contentious and non-contentious Employment and HR matters and at Redkite I am bringing this expertise to bear for clients across Wales and beyond.
I can often be found advising and guiding clients through disciplinary and grievance procedures, redundancies and transfers, and bespoke contract and policy arrangements. In particular, I previously advised a health and regulatory client conducting investigations into fitness to practise of those in the care sector and this experience has proved invaluable with me being equipped to advise a wide variety of clients on their own investigation processes. I have also advised on the employment ramifications of a purchase of a national gaming industry business with in excess of 800 employees.
I regularly advise both employees and employers through tribunal proceedings including unfair dismissal claims and more complex discrimination and automatic unfair dismissal claims. This includes drafting legal documents, liaising with third parties, analysing and evaluating evidence, negotiations, instructing barristers and conducting preliminary hearings. My approach in such contentious situations is often praised as being very thorough, commercial and supportive to clients.
I also regularly support our commercial and corporate teams with the employment aspects of various business transactions including providing detailed advice on TUPE, redundancies and reorganisations.
I pride myself on providing a friendly but efficient service to all of my clients and giving tailored advice to assist them with the most difficult of conversations with their staff.
One of the things I love the most about being an Employment Solicitor is getting to know our clients’ businesses and providing solutions to them in situations they often consider to be very stressful. Employees can be an employer’s biggest asset but they are invariably the highest risk and most costly asset to have. That is why many of our clients consider our services invaluable in assisting them to avoid costly and lengthy processes.
I also provide businesses with in-house bespoke training sessions and workshops on a range of employment law issues such as difficult contractual issues, disability discrimination and performance management.
Our team’s approach has been praised and recognised through our ranking as a Tier 1 firm in the 2018 Legal 500, the authoritative guide to the legal profession in the UK. I am personally recognised as providing ‘excellent advice across a wide variety of employment law issues’ and being skilled at advising on employment law matters impacting on the health and social care sector.
Our employment team as a whole are praised for ‘Excelling at providing in-depth, accurate advice in a clear and concise manner’, and our ability to ‘run tremendously informative training sessions’ on employment issues.
Having worked previously in Cardiff, I thoroughly enjoy working closer to home but still for a modern and forward thinking commercial law firm.
I live with my partner in Tycroes, Ammanford and on the weekend you will find me doing one of three things: running, cooking or walking our beautiful coastline. In 2018 I fulfilled a life-long ambition to complete a marathon and, whilst you won’t find me running a marathon again any time soon, you can often find me on the start line of some 10k, 10 mile and half marathon races!
I was very impressed with the excellent service provided by Carys Lodwick. I would highly recommend her for employment issues.
