Location: Cardiff

At Redkite Solicitors, we’re doing things differently—and we want you to help lead the way.

We’re building our first in-house costs team, and we need an experienced, ambitious Costs Lawyer to help us take control of our costs work, improve efficiency, and add real strategic value across the firm. This isn’t just a seat at the table—it’s a chance to help design it.

Based in our Cardiff office, you’ll take a central role in delivering high-quality costs work across the Personal Injury department, with a focus on Clinical Negligence and Industrial Disease. As our first internal Costs Lawyer, you’ll be key to shaping how we bring outsourced work back in-house.

Our firm has been providing legal advice to individuals, families and businesses in our communities since 1898 and we are here for our clients every step of the way. We are a forward-looking, ever-expanding firm and are proud to be an employer of choice for around 250 staff members.

  • Handle Costs Budgets (Precedent H) and budget discussions reports (Precedent R), as well as Precedent S and other forms
  • Draft and respond to Points of Dispute and Points of Reply
  • Negotiate settlements of costs with third parties, opponents, and costs firms
  • Conduct detailed assessment hearings, including preparation of hearing bundles and statements of costs
  • Advise fee earners and partners on costs strategy, budgeting, and cost recovery best practices
  • Ensure compliance with CPR, case law, and cost management protocols
  • Train and mentor internal teams, helping raise awareness and understanding of cost processes
  • Implement and manage costs-related software, ensuring efficiency and consistency
  • Support the growth of the costs team, contributing to planning, recruitment, and future direction
  • Produce regular reports and analysis for senior stakeholders on costs performance and savings

Who we’re looking for:

  • ACL-qualified Costs Lawyer with a strong PI, CN, and Industrial Disease background
  • Excellent technical skills in costs drafting, budgeting, negotiation, and advocacy
  • Strong understanding of legal costing tools, CPR rules, and latest case law
  • Confidence in providing internal training and guidance to fee earners
  • Familiarity with leading costs software and case management systems
  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to shape a new function
  • Bonus: Experience in costs for other areas such as COP, Family, or Litigation

What is in it for you?

We’re committed to creating a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing legal team. You’ll be joining colleagues who are not only legally excellent but also commercially astute and down-to-earth. We value trust, boldness, excellence and teamwork — and we want you to thrive as part of that.

  • 25 days annual leave entitlement
  • Holiday buy and sell scheme
  • Contributions to gym membership
  • Flexible working considerations
  • Career development
